Nev’s OG Hummus
OG! 😍
One of the favorites in Taylor house! I make my own, and it cannot compare to anything store-bought. Additionally, my hummus has no additives or stuff that shouldn’t hang out in your digestive systems.
Why hummus? Well….its delicious!! And chickpeas are super nutritional. Here are a few benefits:
Rich source of vitamins, minerals and fiber.
Helps improve digestion, aiding weight management and reducing the risk of several diseases.
High in protein and make an excellent replacement for meat in vegetarian and vegan diets.
Well, modern folks would say: I don’t know how to make it or even better…I don’t have time. ( you DO and you DO) No Excuses!
Hummus is easy to make- below is the picture of all ingredients I put in. Once you have what you need, making hummus is just a few minutes of action.
I prefer to cook my chickpeas because $1.28 bag gives me about 50oz of pure deliciousness! Compare to store bought only 10oz for $4-5!!!
Once they are cooked, you can rub them between your hands to get the skin off or you can use them with skin. If you are not soaking and cooking your own, you can get 2 x 16oz cans. (Be mindful when you add salt later because they already contain sodium.)
Put them chickpeas in a blender with about 1/3 cup of olive oil, 1/3 cup tahini, 1/2 cup of cold water, the juice of one lemon, salt (start with 1/2 TBSP), 1/2 tsp black pepper, 1/2 TBSP garlic powder and 1/2 TBSP paprika, 1/2 TBSP cumin powder. Blend and adjust your seasoning to taste. If you want it creamier, add a bit more of cold water.
The more often you make it, the better it will be! (Practice makes it better)
I love to use hummus on freshly baked bread with arugula on top and balsamic vinegar.
With pita chips.
With carrots/celery.
Let me know if you make your own how it turned out!
Bon Apetit!
About 50oz for $1.28
10oz of full of chemicals crap you get in the store for $4-5 !! 🤨
